URCC Centenarian Salute

May 3rd, 2016

One of our very own, Minnie Alston was celebrated at the Centenarian Celebration hosted by DC Mayor Bowser and the Office on Aging this past Thursday, April 28th. Ms. Alston worked as a domestic and foster care provider and later became an Ordained Minister. She enjoys arts and crafts, listening to music, and has a great love for children. She is also an active member of First Rising Mt. Zion Baptist Church and Downtown Clusters. URCC is honored to have Ms. Alston here with us as she just celebrated her 101st birthday along with Ms. Virginia Warren at 102 and Ms. Gladys Smith at 103 years of age!

Older Americans Month 2016

May 3rd, 2016

Older adults are growing and increasingly vital part of our country. The contributions they make to our communities are varied, deeply rooted, and included influential roles in the nation’s economy, politics, and the arts. In 1963, the Administration on Aging began to acknowledge the contributions of older people by using the month of May to celebrate Older Americans Month. The annual observance offers the opportunity to learn about, support and celebrate our nation’s older adults citizens. Please join VMT in promoting activities, inclusion, and wellness for older Americans in your community!
